Question 625848
the sum of two numbers is 56. one third of the first number plus one fourth of the second number is 16. find the numbers.

Solution:

Let x and y those 2 numbers

x+y = 56
x/3 + y/4 = 16

Then:

x+y = 56
4x+3y = 16(12) = 192

y = 56-x

4x+3(56-x) = 192

x+168 = 192

x = 24

y = 32

Answer: 24 and 32
