For given problem:
slope=∆y/∆x=rise/run=(-8-4)/(-3-3)=-12/-6=2
equation: y=2x+b
solve for b using any one of given coordinates, (3,4)
4=2*3+b
b=-2
equation of given line: y=2x-2

I does not matter which point is used to get the answer. In fact, you  can derive the equation of   the straight line with the slope and coordinates of any one point on the line, or with coordinates of any two points on the line. I chose the point (3,4) over (-3,-8) because it feels easier to work with positive numbers, but either point will give the correct answer.
