Move the decimal point until it is between the first and second digits on the left hand side of your given number.  Count the number of places you moved the decimal point.  Write your number with the decimal point in its new position folowed by *[tex \LARGE \times\,10^n] where *[tex \LARGE n] is the number of places you moved the decimal point.
