Question 612471
On the return trip he was traveling 52 mph. Solved working backwards... On the snow trip if it took him 10 hours his mph would be 26 mph (mph=distance/time, 260 miles/10 hrs). So if you double the speed to 52 mph how far could he travel on the return trip in the rain? distance again is 260 miles, so 260 miles @ 52 mph is 5 hours. Check. trip 2 is 5 hrs. earlier than trip 1, yes trip 1 is 10 hrs. and trip 2 is 5 hours. And trip 2 is double the speed of trip 1, yes trip 1 26mph trip 2 52mph. Sometimes the best way is to start with a guess and work from there.
