Question 56774
16.	Are the following lines parallel, perpendicular, or neither?
   L1 through (–4, –7) and (1, 3)
   L2 through (2, 6) and (4, 10)
A)	Parallel
B)	Perpendicular
C)	Neither
If the lines are parallel their slopes (m)are equal.
If the lines are perpendicular their slopes are negative reciprocals (opposite signs and upside down).
If it's not either of those it's neither.
The formula for finding the slope (m) given two points (x1,y1) and (x2,y2) is:  {{{highlight(m=(y2-y1)/(x2-x1))}}}
L1 has a slope of {{{m1=(3-(-7))/(1-(-4))}}}
{{{m1=(3+7)/(1+4)}}}
{{{m1=10/5}}}
{{{highlight(m1=2)}}}
L2 has a slope of {{{m2=(10-6)/(4-2)}}}
{{{m2=4/2}}}
{{{highlight(m2=2)}}}
m1=m2, therefore the lines are parallel. (A)
Happy Calculating!!!
