Question 607754
I'll do part a) to get you started

{{{x=1}}} or {{{x=-2}}} Start with the given solutions.

{{{x-1=0}}} or {{{x+2=0}}} Get everything to one side so that only 0 remains on the right side (for both equations).

{{{(x-1)(x+2)=0}}} Use the zero product property to combine the equations.

{{{x^2+x-2=0}}} FOIL out the left side.

So the answer is {{{x^2+x-2=0}}}

To check your work, simply solve {{{x^2+x-2=0}}} for x.

Doing so will show you that the solutions are {{{x=1}}} or {{{x=-2}}}, which confirms the answer.
