Question 56251
Hey lackinmath, I thought I told you to change your nickname to something more positive like lotsofmath. :-)
:
Please help completely factor the following

{{{4m^2-8m+3}}}
This is in {{{highlight(ax^2+bx+c)}}} form. We need to replace b with two numbers that multiply together to get a*c, but add together to get b.
Our a=4, b=-8, and c=3
a*c=4*3=12  and b=-8
-2*-6=12 and -2-6=-8
Replace b with -2-6 and factor by grouping:
{{{4m^2-2m-6m+3}}}
{{{(4m^2-2m)+(-6m+3)}}} Factor the GCF out of each group.
{{{2m(2m-1)-3(2m-1)}}} They both have a factor of 2m-1, factor it out.
{{{(2m-1)(2m-3)}}}
Happy Calculating, lackinmath!!!
