Question 596095
Hi, there--
. Two lines are parallel if they have the same slope (and they are not the same line.) Translate these equations to slope-intercept form (y=mx+b) and you can read their slopes as the coefficient of the x-term (m).
.
{{{3x+2y=6}}}
{{{2y=-3x+6}}}
{{{y=-(3/2)x+3}}}
.
{{{6x+4y=8}}}
{{{4y=-6x+8}}}
{{{y=-(3/2)x+2}}}
.
We see that both lines have a slope of -3/2. They are not the same line because the y-intercepts (b) are 3 and 2, respectively.
.
The lines are parallel.
