Question 55389
A man has found work sharpening saw blades. For each saw he sharpens up to 200 in a week he is paid 80 cents. For blades in excess of 200 in a week he is paid $1.25 each. His wages are docked 50 cents for each blade he ruins during the sharpening process. Find his gross wages for a week in which he correctly sharpens 312 blades and ruins 10.
:
[1st 200 sharpened] + [blades sharpened > 200] - [Blades ruined] = gross wages
  [200 * .80] + [1.25(312-200)] - [.50(10)] =
:
   160.00 + 1.25(112) - 5.00 =
    160 + 140 - 5 = $295
