Question 593783
Two cars X and Y start from two places A, B respectively which are 700 km apart
at 9 a. m. Both the cars run at an average speed of 60 km / hr.
Car X stops at 10 a. m. and again starts at 11 a. m. while the other car Y continues to run without stopping.
When do the two cars cross each other ?
:
Let t = travel time of Car y
then
(t-1) = travel time of Car x
:
The cars will meet when their distances traveled add up to 700 km
:
60t + 60(t-1) = 700
60t + 60t - 60 = 700
120t = 700 + 60
120t = 760
t = 6{{{1/3}}} hrs, which is 6 hrs 20 min
hence
9:00 + 6:20 = 3:20 Pm
:
:
Check this by finding the actual distance each car traveled by 3:20 PM
Car y: 6.33(60) = 380
Car x: 5.33(60) = 320
----------------------
total distance: 700 km
