Question 589078
4x - 4y = 1 I. Need the solution for y.
use the rules of algebra to isolate y
Add 4y to both sides
4x - 4y + 4y = 1 + 4y
4x = 4y + 1
Subtract 1 from both sides
4x - 1 = 4y + 1 - 1
4x - 1 = 4y
y has to have coefficient of 1, divide both sides by 4
{{{4/4}}}x - {{{1/4}}} = {{{4/4}}}y
which gives you
1x - {{{1/4}}} = 1y
or we can just write it
x - {{{1/4}}} = y
usually written
y = x - {{{1/4}}}

Don't be discouraged, it's really not that hard, just remember whatever you do to one side of an equation, do the same to the other side
