Question 55077
What is the process to solve x - 2x = 15 ? Do I have to factor something?
No, nothing that complicated.
First combine your like terms on the left.
1x-2x=15
(1-2)x=15
-1x=15
Divide by the coefficient of x, -1 on both sides of the equal sign.
-1x/-1=15/-1
x=-15
:
To check to see if we're right, substitute -15 in where the x's were in the original equation and see if both sides equal.
(-15)-2(-15)=15
-15+30=15
15=15  The answer checks out.
Happy Calculating!!!
