well just look at the problem dont try to see what x can be see what x cannot be
the equation says that the left side can not be a negative number
the absolute value of x+3 will almost always be positive 
if x=-10 then |-10+3|=|-7|=7
if x=10 then |10+3|=|13|=13
but if x=-3 then |-3+3|=|0|=0
in this case 0-1=-1 which is not greaterthan or equal to 0
so the solution set is all real numbers negative and positive except for -3
x=(-infinity,-3],[-3, infinity)
