<font face="Times New Roman" size="+2">

Two numbers, *[tex \Large x] and *[tex \Large y]

The sum:  *[tex \Large x\ +\ y]

One third of the sum: *[tex \Large \frac{x\ +\ y}{3}]

One third of the sum is 12:  *[tex \Large \frac{x\ +\ y}{3}\ =\ 12]

The difference:  *[tex \Large x\ -\ y]

Half of the difference:  *[tex \Large \frac{x\ -\ y}{2}]

...is 14:  *[tex \Large \frac{x\ -\ y}{2}\ =\ 14]

Simplify the two equations:

*[tex \LARGE \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ x\ +\ y\ =\ 36]

*[tex \LARGE \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ x\ -\ y\ =\ 28]

Solve the 2X2 system. Hint: It is already set up for Elimination.
