Question 565063
I don't know what the equation is that you're trying to solve. However, if when you solve it, the variable goes away and you get something like 0=0 or 5=5 (which are both always true), you have an identity. If the variable goes away and you get something like 0=3 (which makes no sense), it has no solution.

Examples:
2x = 6; solution is x = 3
4x + 4 = 4(x + 1); when you solve, the x's cancel and you get the same number on both sides, so this is an identity.
4x + 4 = 4x; when you solve, the x's cancel but you get 4 = 0, which makes no sense, so this has no solution.
