Question 562135
Hello. I'm a parent trying to help her 6th grade student. How do you solve 9/6 = h/14? 6 doesn't go into 14 evenly so do I need to reduce it to 3/2 and then 3/2 = 21/14? 2 goes into 14 seven times so I multiplied 7 x 3 and got 21. Probably didn't do it right. Please help me refresh my memory. Thanks! Beth

9/6 = h/14
The best way to solve this equation is first cross multiply then solve for the unknown:
6h=9*14=126
divide both sides by 6
h=126/6=21
.
You could reduce 9/6 to 3/2 first and work with smaller numbers
3/2 = h/14
2h=42
h=21
you got it right anyway
