I like it when you show your work like that because I can see exactly where you went wrong and get right to the heart of the matter.


Your difficulty here is that you are trying to say, with the equation *[tex \Large w\ +\ 2w\ +\ 4\ =\ 26], is that the perimeter is equal to the width plus the length, when, in fact, the perimeter is TWO times the width plus TWO times the length.


So, you could have written either:


*[tex \LARGE \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ 2w\ +\ 2(2w\ +\ 4)\ =\ 26]


or


*[tex \LARGE \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ w\ +\ 2w\ +\ 4\ =\ 13]


Either way gets you there.
