Question 546730
What is the phase shift?
y=9sin(5x+pi/5)
i thought it was pi/5 but my teacher said it was wrong
**
Equation for sin function: y=Asin(Bx-C), A=amplitude, period=2π/B, phase-shift=B/C
For given problem:
B=5
C=π/5
So phase shift=C/B=(π/5)/5=π/25 (shift to the left)
..
An alternate way of finding phase shift is to set (5x+π/5)=0, then solve for x
5x+π/5=0
5x=-π/5
x=-π/25  (shift to the left)
..
Phase-shift moves the entire curve x units to the right or left on the x-axis
