Question 545114
x+2y=0,2x-6y=5 solve each system by the addition method. Thanks!!

The addition method of solving a system of equations is also known as the elimination method, where one variable is eliminated in order to determine the value of the other.

x + 2y = 0 ----- eq (i)
2x - 6y = 5 ------ eq (ii)
- 2x - 4y = 0 ------ Multiplying eq (i) by - 2 ------ eq (iii)

- 10y = 5 ------ Adding eqs (ii) & (iii)

y = {{{-(5)/10}}}, or {{{highlight_green(-1/2)}}}

{{{x + 2(-1/2) = 0}}} ----- Substituting {{{-1/2}}} for y in eq (i)

x - 1 = 0

x = {{{highlight_green(1)}}}
