Consecutive even numbers have to be integers because only integers are even or odd.  Consecutive even integers are two apart.  6 and 8, for example, are 2 apart.  Call the numbers x and x+2.<P>
x+x+2=10<P>
2x=8<P>
x=4<P>
x=4 and x+2=6<P>
