No way to tell.  Now if you had written *[tex \Large y\ =\ 9], then you could just replace *[tex \Large y] in *[tex \Large y\ =\ 4x\ +\ 1] with *[tex \Large 9] and do the arithmetic to solve for *[tex \Large x].  But *[tex \Large Y] is NOT *[tex \Large y], so that method won't work.
