Question 537887
<font face="Times New Roman" size="+2">

Prom isn't until May, so I suspect this is a quadratic equation <i>pro</i>blem.

Add *[tex \LARGE -2] to both sides, then your coefficients are

*[tex \LARGE \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ a\ =\ 2\ \ ], *[tex \LARGE b\ =\ -1\ \ ], and *[tex \LARGE c\ =\ -6]

You really don't need the quadratic formula for this one because it factors quite tidily, but since you are asked to use it, just plug your coefficients in and do the arithmetic:

*[tex \LARGE \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ n\ =\ \frac{-b\ \pm\ \sqrt{b^2\ -\ 4ac}}{2a}\ =\ \frac{-(-1)\ \pm\ \sqrt{(-1)^2\ -\ 4(2)(-6)}}{2(2)}]

John
*[tex \LARGE e^{i\pi} + 1 = 0]
My calculator said it, I believe it, that settles it
