You want to keep the second plan beneath $12.  The second plan says that each text costs $.08.  So if there were x texts, that would be x*.08=.08x.<P>
Having that beneath $12 means it must be less than 12.<P>

Divide both sides by .08.<P>

If you send 149 or fewer texts then the second plan is better.<P>
That's math.  In the real world the second plan also involves worrying over how many texts you send.  There is some value to not having to worry about it and count texts.
