Question 526330
On an automobile trip, a traveler drives at a speed of 55 mph for 2 hours and then stops for 30 minutes to rest.
 He then repeats this behavior over and over again.
:
What is the traveler's average velocity?
:
We can say he travels 110 miles in 2.5 hrs (v = dist/time)
v = {{{110/2.5}}}
v = 44 mph
:
How long will it take to complete a 600 mile journey? (t = dist/velocity)
t = {{{600/44}}}
t = 13.636 hrs, however, I am not quite sure if that last 30 min rest should be included in this, perhaps the time would be 13.136 hrs (a half hr less)
:
Let's say 600 - 110 = 490 mi at 44 mph 490/44 = 11.136 hrs, then
the last 110 mi in two hrs: 11.136 + 2 = 13.136 hrs, like we suggested above.
