Question 525292
<font face="Times New Roman" size="+2">

In the 15 minutes head-start, Giselle goes 40 miles per hour times 1/4 hour = 10 miles. Melvin is going 20 miles per hour faster, so he makes up the 10 mile difference in 10 miles divided by 20 miles per hour, or 1/2 hour. In that half hour, Giselle goes an additional 1/2 times 40 miles per hour = 20 miles. In total, by the time Melvin catches up, she will have travelled 30 miles, 15 miles short of the 45 mile distance to the airport. That is if Melvin doesn't stop at his therapist for a session to deal with his self-esteem issues caused by being teased as a kid for having such a goofy name.
