Your question makes no sense.  Why would you use the quadratic formula?  The quadratic formula is for finding the zeros of a quadratic function.  You want the maximum value of the function.


The *[tex \Large t]-coordinate of the vertex, and the value of *[tex \Large t] at which the maximum height is reached is given by:


*[tex \LARGE \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ t_{max} = \frac{-b}{2a}]


Where *[tex \Large a] and *[tex \Large b] are the lead and 1st degree term coefficients of your function.  Once you determine *[tex \Large t_{max}] plug it into the function to determine the height at that time which will be the maximum height.
