Presuming that the expressions *[tex \Large x\ +\ 1] and *[tex \Large 3x\ +\ 1] relate to the base and height of the parallelogram (in one order or the other), you need to FOIL the two expressions, set the product equal to 96, put the equation into standard form, and then solve the quadratic.  Discard any root less than -1.  Then substitute the remaining root into the two expressions, assigning the resulting values to the base and height appropriate to their relative size on the diagram.
