Question 51866
Dave Sharp has $10 to buy stamps. He wants to buy twice as many 22 cent stamps as 14 cent stamps. What is the greatest number of 22 cent stamps he can buy?
Please solve using one variable.
Thank you
let number of 14 cent stamps bought = x...their value = 14x
number of 22 cent stamps bought =twice of the above = 2x.....their value = 22*2x=44x
total value of stamps bought = 14x+44x=58x=10$=1000 cents
x =1000/58 = 17.3....
hence he can buy 2*17.3=34.6...or 35 stamps
