Question 514557
I always end up with the slope upside down because I get confused which one equals x or y. g(x), or x. Like if the problem is f(6)=7 and f(3)= 2 I get confused on which one is x and y. Is the slope 3/5? Or 5/3? How can I remeber which one it is?
**
f(6)=7 says that if you plug in an x value of 6 into the equation, you will get a y-value of 7.
In other words, this is another way to write an ordered (x,y) pair like (6,7)
f(3)=2 represents an ordered pair of (3,2)
..
Slopes are defined as a change in y/change in x
Some ways of writing slope=∆y/∆x=rise/run=(y1-y2)/(x1-x2)
..
Hope this clears up some confusion you have about functional notation and slopes.
