Change your inequality to an equation.  Plot the two roots.  The two roots will divide the x-axis into three intervals.  Pick a value from each of the intervals that is NOT an endpoint.  One or two of the values will make the original inequality a true statement.  The interval or intervals from which the value(s) that make the inequality true is (are) the interval or intervals that represent the solution set of the inequality.
