Question 508526
7. Jane and Terry went to Long Island for a week. They needed to rent a car, so they checked out two rental firms. Avis wanted $28 per day with no mileage fee. Hertz wanted $108 per week and $0.14 per mile. How many miles would they have to drive before the Avis price is less than Hertz’s price?
==================================================================
A = 28*7 = $196 [Avis price]
H = 108 + 0.14m [Hertz price]
First set the prices equal:
196 = 108 + 0.14m
88 = 0.14m
m = 628.6 miles
So if they drive 629 miles, the Avis price will be less than the Hertz price.
