Question 504029
7/(y-1)+1/y=9/8

56y + 8(y-1) = 9y(y-1) ... you made a mistake/typo on this line (should be 56y at the beginning and NOT 54y)

56y + 8y-8 = 9y^2-9y

64y-8 = 9y^2-9y

0 = 9y^2-9y-64y+8

0 = 9y^2-73y+8

9y^2-73y+8 = 0

9y^2-72y-y+8 = 0

(9y^2-72y)+(-y+8) = 0

9y(y-8)-1(y-8) = 0

(9y-1)(y-8) = 0

9y-1 = 0 or y-8 = 0

9y = 1 or y = 8

y = 1/9 or y = 8

So the solutions are    y = 1/9 or y = 8

Let me know if you need me to go over a certain step/line of the work above.
