Question 503710

{{{(x^2-2)(x^3-4x+9)}}} Start with the given expression.

{{{x^2(x^3-4x+9)-2(x^3-4x+9)}}} Expand. Note: {{{(A+B)(C+D+E) = A(C+D+E)+B(C+D+E)}}}

{{{(x^2)*(x^3)+(x^2)*(-4x)+(x^2)*(9)+(-2)*(x^3)+(-2)*(-4x)+(-2)*(9)}}} Distribute.

{{{x^5-4x^3+9x^2-2x^3+8x-18}}} Multiply.

{{{x^5-6x^3+9x^2+8x-18}}} Now combine like terms.

 So {{{(x^2-2)(x^3-4x+9)}}} expands to {{{x^5-6x^3+9x^2+8x-18}}}.

In other words, {{{(x^2-2)(x^3-4x+9)=x^5-6x^3+9x^2+8x-18}}}.
