Question 502093
"Emily has nickels, dimes, and quarters in her piggy bank. She has twice as many dimes as nickels and 12 fewer quarters than dimes. The total value of the coins is $9. How many of each coin type does Emily have?" This is what I have tried, but I can't get it to come out right....
nickels = x
dimes = 2x
quarters = 2x-12
Am I anywhere near the right answer?

You are exactly on track so far, but you need to set up an equation to finish the problem and get the right answers.
.05x+.10(2x)+.25(2x-12)=9.00
.05x+.20x+.50x-3=9
.75x=12
x=16
ans:
no of nickels=16
no of dimes=2x=32
no of quarters=2x-12=32-12=20
