Question 501883

In the first place, you do not have an equation, you have an inequality. The difference in the solution process only arises if you multiply by a negative (in which case you have to reverse the sense of the inequality). Other than that, the processes are the same as solving an equation.

*[tex \LARGE \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ 3w\ +\ \frac{5}{4}\ \geq\ 2w]

Add *[tex \Large -2w] to both sides:

*[tex \LARGE \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ 3w\ -\ 2w\ +\ \frac{5}{4}\ \geq\ 2w\ -\ 2w]

*[tex \LARGE \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ w\ +\ \frac{5}{4}\ \geq\ 0]

Add *[tex \Large -\frac{5}{4}] to both sides:

*[tex \LARGE \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ w\ +\ \frac{5}{4}\ -\ \frac{5}{4}\ \geq\ -\frac{5}{4}]

*[tex \LARGE \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ w\ \geq\ -\frac{5}{4}]
