If one bicycle had a speed of 8 mph and the other had a speed of 12 mph, then they had a speed of 20 mph relative to each other.  That means that they would cover the 240 mile distance between them in 12 hours (using *[tex \Large t\ =\ \frac{d}{r}]).  Presuming that the fly maintained a constant speed of 16 mph (and never had to slow down to turn around) then the fly travelled (using *[tex \Large d\ =\ rt]) 16 times 12 = 192 miles.
