Question 494662
Need someone's help please.
Solve using the substitution method. Show your work. If the system has no solution or an infinite number of solutions, state this.
4x + 4y = -36
4x + 4y = 12
----
It has no solution because the slopes are the same
and the y-intercepts are not the same.
------------------------------------------------
Solution by substitution:
Divide thru both equations by 4:
----
x + y = -9
x + y = 12
----
x = 12-y
---
substitute for "x" and solve for "y":
12-y + y = -9
12 = 9
----
That contradiction occurred because we assumed the
"x" in both equations were the same and the "y"
in both equations were the same. They cannot be.
