Question 488673
A long distance trucker traveled 180 miles in one direction
during a snow storm.
--------------------
The return trip in rainy weather was accomplished at double speed and took 3 hours less time. Find the speed going?
---
Going DATA:
distance = 120 miles ; rate = x mph ; time = d/r = 180/x hrs

===================
Return DATA:
distance = 120 miles ; rate = 2x mph ; time = 120/(2x) = 60/x hrs

===================
Equation:
time - time = 3 hrs
180/x - 60/x = 3 hrs
----
180 - 60 = 3x
3x = 120
x = 40 mph (the "Going" rate)
