Question 480272
<font face="Times New Roman" size="+2">

Incorrect answers:

3.  Sign error.

7. Not sure where you went wrong. Your value for *[tex \Large x] is completly out to lunch and your value for *[tex \Large y] is the value you should have gotten for *[tex \Large x]. Try it again and send me the results in a reply. Hint: Multiply the first equation by 3 and the second one by 2 to eliminate the *[tex \Large y] variable. Then, rather than trying to substitute that butt-ugly fraction back into one of the original equations, take the two original equations and multiply by -7 and 8 to eliminate the *[tex \Large x] variable.

9. Not even close. Solve the second equation for *[tex \Large y]

*[tex \LARGE \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ y\ =\ 10\ -\ x]

Then substitute into the first equation:

*[tex \LARGE \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ 5x\ -\ (10\ -\ x)\ =\ 8]

Solve for *[tex \Large x], etc. <i><b>Pay attention to your signs</b></i>

13. Dead wrong. Parallel lines have identical slopes. These two lines have different slopes so they must intersect.

15. I'm not sure what "...sells more than $25 for chocolate" means unless you are trying to say "...creates mixtures of *[tex \Large x] lbs of dark chocolate and *[tex \Large y] lbs of milk chocolate so that the value of the mixture is greater than $25." If that is the case, you did this one correctly.

Now, aside from going back and correcting all of the odd numbered problems that you missed, except of course for #15, I want you to put away the even-numbered problem answers you got from whatever source and then try the even numbered problems again.

John
*[tex \LARGE e^{i\pi} + 1 = 0]
My calculator said it, I believe it, that settles it
