Question 478825

To round off decimals:

    Find the place value you want (the "rounding digit") and look at the digit just to the right of it.
    If that digit is {{{less}}} than {{{5}}}, do {{{not}}} {{{change}}} the rounding digit {{{but}}}{{{ drop}}} all digits to the right of it.

    If that digit is {{{greater}}} than or {{{equal}}} to {{{five}}}, {{{add}}}{{{ one}}} to the {{{rounding}}} digit and {{{drop}}} all digits to the right of it.

Simplify {{{5.88888888888889}}}...if you need to round it up to one decimal place, you can see that the digit on second decimal place is {{{8}}} and you need to {{{add}}}{{{one}}} to the digit at first decimal place which is also {{{8}}}; so, you will have {{{5.88888888888889=5.9}}}

but, if you want to round it up to whole number, since the digit at first decimal place which is {{{8}}}, {{{add}}}{{{one}}} to the whole number which is {{{5}}}; so, you will have {{{5.9=6}}}
