Question 470694
I assume you are defining a function (use f(x)) because x is not equal to x^2 - x for all x, and a can never equal a-2. If f(a) = a-2, we simply solve for a by replacing f(a):

*[tex \LARGE f(a) = a-2]

*[tex \LARGE a^2 - a = a - 2]

*[tex \LARGE a^2 - 2a + 2 = 0]

*[tex \LARGE a = \frac{2 \pm \sqrt{4 - 8}}{2}]

which is not equal to 3/2, or any other real number.
