Question 452177
<font face="Times New Roman" size="+2">

You are adding the wrong things.

She borrowed 50 pesos from each friend and then gave back 1 peso to each of them for a total of 2 pesos that she has returned. She now owes each of them 49 pesos each. 2 times 49 is 98 plus the 2 pesos she has already returned equals the 100 pesos she borrowed.

Note that the 98 pesos of her debt matches the 97 peso value of the dress plus the 1 peso she retained from the change.

Finally 100 pesos borrowed = 98 pesos still owed + 2 pesos returned = 97 peso dress + 1 peso she kept + 2 pesos returned.
