Question 442160
area=2L+2W

this applies for squares as well as rectangles

if we have an area of say... 125

if all you have to go off of is just the area, then you can have an almost infinite number of possibilities for the exact dimensions, but i'll show you how to zero in on a single solution

say that the length is 5 units longer than the width

that would make the equation 2L+2W+10=125

i put the 10 in there because remember, you have 5 on both sides, so lets solve this...

lets change the l and w to x's

2X+2X+10=125

subtract 10 from both sides

2X+2X=115

comebine like terms

4X=115

divide by 4 on both sides

x=28.75

we now have 4 equal sides, but wait, we still have to add +5 to the length

so, your length is 33.75

and your width is  28.75

lets check our work

2(33.75)+2(28.75)=125

thats how ya do it
