Question 441064
The heights, in metres, or two hot-air balloons are measured at the same time. these formulae give their heights t seconds after that time.
- Balloon 1: 500-0.5t
- Balloon 2: 50+0.4t
a)Write down an equation and solve it to work out how many seconds it will take for the two balloons to be at the same height.
---
Solve:
500 - 0.5t = 50 + 0.4t
0.9t = 450
t = 500 seconds
---------------------------
b) What will the height be at the time in part a?
--
h(500) = 50 + 0.4(500)
---
= 40 + 200
---
= 240 ft.
