Question 427592
thw time in hours it takesa a satellilite to complete an orbit around the earth varies directly as the radius of the orbit from the center of earth and inversly as the orbital velocity . if a satellite completes an orbit 780 miles above the earth in 11 hours at a velocity of 25000 mph, how long would it take a satellite to complete an orbit if it is at 1700 miles above the earth at a velocity of 32000mph? use 3960 miles as the radius of the earth and round your answer to the nearest hundreth of an hour.

..

You can solve this simply with proportions:

(1700+3960)/(780+3960)*(25000/32000)*11=hours to complete orbit
(5660/4740)(25000/32000)(11)=10.26 hours
ans:
It takes a satellite 10.26 hours to complete an orbit around the earth if it is at 1700 miles above the earth at a velocity of 32000 mph
