Question 400011
3x-y=-5
2x+2y=-6

-----
It's arbitrary whether you eliminate the x-terms
or the y-terms.
---
If you want to eliminate the x terms:
multiply thru the 1st equation by 2
multiply thru the 2nd equation by 3
----
If you want to eliminate the y-terms;
multiply thru the 1st equation by 2
leave the 2nd equation alone.
==========================
Looks like eliminating the y-terms would be easier so do it:
6x-2y = 10
2x+2y=-6
----------------
Add and solve for "x":
8x = 4
x = 1/2
---
Solve for "y":
2x+2y = -6
x+y = -3
(1/2) + y = -3
y = -7/2
----------------
Hope that helps.
