Question 397947
Hi, I can solve it in a straight forward algebra way. You can do all
the fancy stuff they want.
In words:
(total liters of acid you end up with)/(total liters of solution you end up with) = 8%
Let {{{x}}} = liters of 24% solution needed
given:
acid in 4% solution = {{{.04*8 = .32}}} liters
acid in 24% solution = {{{.24x}}} liters
-----------------------------------
{{{(.32 + .24x)/(8 + x) = .08}}}
{{{.32 + .24x = .08*(8 + x)}}}
{{{.32 + .24x = .64 + .08x}}}
{{{.16x = .64 - .32}}}
{{{.16x = .32}}}
{{{x = 2}}} liters
2 liters of the 24% acid solution are needed
check answer:
{{{(.32 + .24x)/(8 + x) = .08}}}
{{{(.32 + .24*2)/(8 + 2) = .08}}}
{{{(.32 + .48)/10 = .08}}}
{{{.8/10 = .08}}}
{{{.8 = .8}}}
OK
