The volume of a cylinder is the height (depth in this case) times the area of the base.   The base is a circle so the area is given by *[tex \Large \pi r^2].  The trick to this problem is to determine the value of the radius in feet given the diameter in inches.


The radius is half of the diameter, so 8 inches, but this is equal to *[tex \Large \frac{8}{12}\ =\ \frac{2}{3}] foot.


Your calculation is then:


*[tex \LARGE \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ V\ =\ \left(2\right)\left(\frac{2}{3}\right)^2\pi]


And you get to do your own arithmetic.  You will have to guess what your textbook or instructor means by "approximate" and round your answer appropriately.
