Question 381577
"The percent increase for in-state tuition in Iowa public universities can be modeled by f(x)=0.156xsquared-2.05x+10.2, where x is the number of years after 1990.
a) Based on this model, by what percent did the tuition increase in 2001? my answer for this was 6.526%
f(x)=0.156xsquared-2.05x+10.2
f(11) =8.526
but I can't get part b.
-------------------------------
b) In what year was the minimum tuition increase? To the nearest tenth,
You have a quadratic equation.
The minimum occurs when x = -b/2a = 2.05/(2(0.156)) = 6.5705..
-----
That would be in during the 7th year after 2001.
That would be in 2008
---------------------------
what percent did tuition increase that year?
f(7) = 3.494%
