Question 381571

{{{(x+3)(2x-7)}}} Start with the given expression.

Now let's FOIL the expression.

Remember, when you FOIL an expression, you follow this procedure:

{{{(highlight(x)+3)(highlight(2x)-7)}}} Multiply the <font color="red">F</font>irst terms:{{{(x)*(2*x)=2*x^2}}}.

{{{(highlight(x)+3)(2x+highlight(-7))}}} Multiply the <font color="red">O</font>uter terms:{{{(x)*(-7)=-7*x}}}.

{{{(x+highlight(3))(highlight(2x)-7)}}} Multiply the <font color="red">I</font>nner terms:{{{(3)*(2*x)=6*x}}}.

{{{(x+highlight(3))(2x+highlight(-7))}}} Multiply the <font color="red">L</font>ast terms:{{{(3)*(-7)=-21}}}.

---------------------------------------------------

So we have the terms: {{{2*x^2}}}, {{{-7*x}}}, {{{6*x}}}, {{{-21}}}

{{{2*x^2-7*x+6*x-21}}} Now add every term listed above to make a single expression.

{{{2*x^2-x-21}}} Now combine like terms.

So {{{(x+3)(2x-7)}}} FOILs to {{{2*x^2-x-21}}}.

In other words, {{{(x+3)(2x-7)=2*x^2-x-21}}}.
